DDD’s Top 10 Video Game Tracks!
If you can recall when I wrote about my top 5 favorite Nintendo soundtracks, I spoke about the soundtracks as a whole and not the individual pieces of the music. For those who do not recall, this is what I had listed as my top 5 favorite Nintendo soundtracks of all time.
5. Super Mario RPG – Yoko Shimomura
4. Metroid Prime – Kenji Yamamoto and Kouichi Kyuuma
3. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island – Koji Kondo
2. Banjo-Kazooie – Grant Kirkhope
1. Super Smash Bros. Brawl – Various Composers
Now, I compared each of these soundtracks to each other as a whole in attempt to sort out which soundtrack I liked altogether. It was very difficult to leave certain soundtracks off the list because I do like a wide variety of Nintendo soundtracks and many individual tracks within the games separately. It was hard to pick out an all-time favorite from the many soundtracks I enjoyed. Likewise, it was very difficult to pick out individual songs/pieces of music as my all-time favorite pieces.
Regardless, here we are, and this list will not be biased towards the soundtracks I picked above. How a soundtrack holds up as a whole is a lot different than liking individual pieces of music from a soundtrack. That’s not to say I will refrain from putting songs I like from the above list of games onto this one, it just means that they are not the deciding factors as to why I like an individual song. The game could have a bogus soundtrack, yet have one piece of music that stands out above the rest. Likewise, the opposite can be true. A game can have an excellent soundtrack, but not have any individual pieces that really stand out. Read More…
Banjo Kazooie Diary Four; The night before Christmas
Twas the night before Christmas, when all through Feezeezy Peak,
Not a mole was stirring, not even a squeak.
The jiggies were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that the hero Banjo soon would be there.
The cubs were frantic with despair,
For lost was their poppa bear.
He left with the promise of gifts,
But never returned because he is a right old git.
Turns out he had something stuck in his tummy,
Which BMD found pretty funny.
Well I’ve run out of rhymes so I’ll just get on with this.
Freezeezy Peak.
BMD’s top 10 video game tracks
Oh boy, another list! I’d like to apologize that this list was so delayed from Grifflon’s and Pixellll’s, I had some trouble writing it and wanted to make it different/better than my previous. Anyways, I left the gooey intros to the Top 5 soundtracks list so lets just get right into this one!
10. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island – Hop! Hop! Donut Lifts – Koji Kondo
I always thought the donut lifts looked more like onion ring lifts…
Yoshi’s Island is such a happy, fun game to play. Whenever you’re having a bad day, go listen to the Yoshi’s Island soundtrack, it’ll cheer you up. Also, for those of you saying that you didn’t like the game because of baby mario crying, go away. I don’t like you.
Donkey Kong Country – In A Nutshell – Episode 1
One of our first episodes of “In a Nutshell” by BMD (the coolest kid on the block) is now up.

Banjo Kazooie Diary Three: Bubblegum Swamp
Bubblegloop Swamp.
Sounds appetizing don’t it? New range from Hubba Bubba Bubble Gum could be released any day now.
I did not like this level. Not one bit.
This level was beyond cruel and unforgiving for two reasons.
1. The swamp aspect that covered nearly the entirety of the level caused damage. This isn’t something new in gaming; lava and ice water usually have the same kind of properties and levels. I find the swamp hurting you was always a bit of a stretch. They did it in Jak and Daxter; The Precursor Legacy and I didn’t enjoy it there either. Some of the jumps were just made so you would fall in. Read More…
BMD’s top 5 video game soundtracks
Well, I guess it’s about time I make a top 5 video game soundtracks list…this isn’t going to be easy. Here we go!
When I think of a video game, probably one of the first things I think of is the soundtrack. A soundtrack can really immerse you into a video game or ruin the whole experience for you. Usually when you play a game you don’t really notice the music in the background because it isn’t anything special. Then there are those games that have an okay soundtrack where a couple songs are memorable but the rest are pretty mediocre, like DDD stated with Link’s Awakening and Tal Tal Heights. Finally there are those few games that knock the ball out of the park and make you want to dance uncontrollably when that soundtrack starts playing, which is probably Banjo-Kazooie for me but DDD so kindly stole that one. In this list, I’ve stuck to the games that have soundtracks which change the gameplay and without them the game wouldn’t be nearly as good as it is. Anyways, enough of the cheesy intros. Lets get on with the list! Read More…
Banjo-Kazooie vs. Banjo-Tooie
Let’s take a look at the late nineties of Nintendo. The Nintendo 64 had just been released and 3D gaming was a very rare thing if not unthinkable thing. I was very young at the time the Nintendo 64 first came into being and had only known the NES to exist. Two dimensional gaming was all my little 5 year old head could comprehend at the time. I remember going into a Gamestop video game store for my 5th birthday and receiving a Nintendo 64 as a gift. The rest of the afternoon was spent with my parents trying to figure out how to connect the thing to the TV. We knew we got it right when the title screen for Super Mario 64 appeared and all we could see was Mario’s giant head.

BMD the Apprentice
Hello folks. My name is Brendan, but here on the webernets I go by the alias BMD. I have been invited to co-found DLC Diaries!
This next year I’m going to be a freshman in high school, hence the apprentice title. When I get out of high school I plan to study Music Theory and Audio Engineering in College. Currently I produce 8-bit chip tunes and electronic music in my free time to practice my craft. I also play percussion instruments including the marimba, snare drum, and drum set.
Aside my love for music, I’m a video game freak. When I was a wee child, my siblings had a SNES with a few gems and a crap ton of Disney games. I think the first video game I ever played was The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past with my brother. I was to little to understand the story and how to play it so I’d watch him play it whenever he visited my family. When I got a bit older I’d play video games all day, including games like The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong Country, Ratchet & Clank, Super Mario Brothers, Metal Gear Solid, and many, many more. Yeah, I had a lot of free time.
